Build East Texas (BETX, pronounced bee-tex) is a local non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to promoting public policy that will directly benefit our own rural East Texas communities in the areas of education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development. We are committed to broad representation, expertise, stewardship, and integrity in government.
What Makes Us Different
Build is Texas (BETX) is unique in a least three ways. First, BETX is committed to approaching public policy through a local lens. When it comes to education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development, the first question we ask is: "What is best for East Texas?" By East Texas, we mean (primarily) Texas 1st congressional district (TX CD-1). This includes the following counties: Angelina, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, Panola, Shelby, Rusk, Harrison, Gregg, Smith, and part of Upshur and Wood (see this map).
Second, we're non-partisan. We will work with a variety of different groups and organizations, regardless of political affiliation.
And finally, we're pragmatic and committed to doing what works. We're a Texas non-profit and we are registered as a 527 organization with the IRS (for more about 527 organizations, go here). As a 527 organization, we can recruit political candidates, participate in party primaries, register voters, engage in voter contact and education programs, and help get out the vote, among other things. We are currently focused on direct voter contact and on building our contact list.
